IWD 2025 & Accelerated Action: Organized for Change
Let’s talk about International Women’s Day—a day that calls us to reflect on women’s struggles, celebrate our progress, and recognize the urgent work that still lies ahead.
A Little History
International Women’s Day has its roots in the early 1900s, when women fought for better working conditions, voting rights, and equality. In 1910, German activist Clara Zetkin proposed dedicating a day to women’s rights at the International Socialist Women's Conference. By 1911, women in Austria, Denmark, Germany, and Switzerland were rallying for their rights. In 1975, the United Nations officially recognized March 8th as International Women’s Day, and the movement has grown ever since, marking both historic victories and ongoing challenges.
Accelerating Action for Change
Fast forward to today, and the journey toward gender equality is more urgent than ever. According to the World Economic Forum, at our current rate, full gender parity won’t be achieved until 2158—roughly five generations from now. That’s why the IWD 2025 campaign theme, Accelerate Action, is so powerful. It’s a call for swift, decisive steps to dismantle systemic barriers and biases, urging us all to support strategies and initiatives that have proven to empower women across the globe.
The Power of Organization
Amid these sweeping changes, one often-overlooked tool in the fight for equality is organization. In our daily lives, being organized isn’t just about tidiness—it’s a form of self-empowerment. Whether you’re managing a career, handling family responsibilities, or planning for the future, a clear system for managing your documents and schedule can boost your independence and resilience. In a fast-paced world, staying organized helps you seize opportunities and overcome obstacles, contributing in a small but meaningful way to the broader movement for progress.
Support the Supporters
This year, International Women’s Day isn’t just about celebrating achievements—it’s also about supporting the groups and individuals who are driving change. From grassroots organizations to global initiatives, many are working tirelessly to advance gender equality. That's what makes IWD so inclusive, not exclusive. As such, IWD belongs to all groups, everywhere. By accelerating action and supporting these efforts, we can help create a world where every woman has the opportunity to thrive.
Thanks for joining this ongoing conversation about empowerment and progress. And as we reflect today, let’s take a moment to appreciate all the incredible women in our lives—our mothers, sisters, friends, colleagues, and mentors. We’re truly grateful for the strength they bring to our communities and for the inspiration they offer every day.
Happy International Women’s Day—let’s all work together to #AccelerateAction for a more equal future!
